And they say, "There is none but our worldly life, and we will not be resurrected."
Tafsir
Verse range: 6:29
Note: Know that there are two established opinions regarding this verse:
The First Opinion: That the Almighty mentioned in the preceding verse that what they used to conceal has become apparent to them. In this verse, it is explained that what they concealed was the matter of the Resurrection (Ma'ad), the Gathering (Hashr), and the Reinstatement (Nashr). This is because they used to deny it, hide its truthfulness, and say, "We have nothing but this worldly life, and after this life, there is neither reward nor punishment."
The Second Opinion: That the implied meaning of the verse is: "And if they were returned [to the world], they would return to what they were forbidden from, and they would deny the Resurrection and the Gathering, saying: {It is nothing but our worldly life, and we shall not be resurrected}."
Verse 7 (The preceding verse, referenced for context):
**{And if you could but see when they are made to stand before their Lord. He will say, "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord!" He will say, "Then taste the punishment for what you used to deny."}**
Verse 29 (The verse under discussion):
**{And they will say, "It is nothing but our worldly life, and we shall not be resurrected."}**
