Al-An'am (The Cattle): (4) And there comes not to them...

Know that when the Almighty first spoke about Tawhid (Monotheism), and secondly about the Ma'ad (Resurrection), and thirdly about what confirms these two objectives, He then proceeded to mention what relates to establishing Prophethood.

He began this by clarifying that these disbelievers are turning away from contemplating the proofs and are not paying attention to them.

This verse indicates that Taqlid (blind imitation) is false, and contemplation of the proofs is obligatory. If this were not the case, Allah would not have condemned those who turn away from the proofs.

Al-Wahidi (may Allah have mercy on him) stated:

  1. The particle min (من) in the phrase {min āyatin} (من ءاية - any sign) is for the totality of the genus that occurs in a negation, like saying, "No one came to me" (mā atānī min aḥad).
  2. The second min (in the phrase min ayatin) is for partiality (tab'īḍ).

The meaning is: No definitive proof (dālīl) from the signs that necessitate reflection and consideration appears to them, except that they turn away from it.
