But your people have denied it while it is the truth. Say, "I am not over you a manager."
Tafsir
Verse range: 6:66-67
The pronoun in the statement: {And your people have denied it} (wa kadhdhabu bihi) has several interpretations:
Then He said: {Say: I am not a guardian over you} (Qul lastu 'alaykum bi-wakīl). This means: I am not a keeper over you such that I would hold you accountable for your denial and turning away from accepting the proofs. I am only a warner, and Allah is the One who will recompense you for your deeds.
Ibn Abbas and the commentators said that this verse was abrogated by the verse of fighting (Qitāl), but this view is considered weak.
Then the Almighty said: {For every piece of news there is a fixed time/place} (li-kulli nabā'in mustaqarr).
What the disbelievers were warned about could refer to the punishment of the Hereafter, or it could refer to the Muslims gaining dominance over the disbelievers through warfare, killing, and subjugation in this world.
Regarding the Almighty's saying: {And when you see those who plunge into Our signs, then turn away from them until they engage in a conversation other than it. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people}.
