Surah As-Saff (The Ranks) - Verse 3

Original Text Analysis:

Translation:

  • Al-Maqt (abhorrence/hatred) means intense dislike. Whoever incurs the abhorrence of Allah, punishment becomes incumbent upon them.
  • The author of Al-Kashshaf stated: Al-Maqt is the most severe, most extreme, and most vile form of hatred.
  • Al-Zajjaj said: The word ‘an (implied in the structure, referring to the statement) is in the nominative case (position of rafʿ), and maqtan (as abhorrence) is in the accusative case (naṣb) functioning as a specification (tamyīz).
  • The meaning is: "Great is your saying what you do not do, as an abhorrence with Allah." This is similar to His saying, Exalted is He: {Grave is the word that comes out of your mouths} (Al-Kahf: 5).

Verse 7:

{ إن الله يحب الذين يقاتلون فى سبيله صفا كأنهم بنيان مرصوص }

Translation:

{Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in ranks as if they were a solid structure (or a single edifice).}
