Friday: (8) Say, "Indeed, the death..."

This means that the death you flee from—due to what your hands have presented, such as the distortion of the verses and other deeds—will inevitably meet you, and fleeing will not benefit you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed.

This refers to what you made the creation witness of (the Torah and the Gospel) and what He concealed from creation (the description of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him), and what you concealed within yourselves of denying his prophethood.

And His saying, the Exalted: {Then He will inform you of what you used to do} means either visibly, coupled with your meeting on the Day of Resurrection, or through recompense: if it is good, then good; and if it is evil, then evil.

Thus, His saying: {Indeed, the death which you flee from} is a warning to strive for what benefits them in the Hereafter, and His saying: {Then He will inform you of what you used to do} is a profound threat and severe admonition.

Then, there are discussions regarding the verse:

The First Discussion: The letter *Fā’* (فـ) is included because it is in the sense of a condition and a consequence. In the recitation of Ibn Mas'ud, it is **{meeting you}** without the *Fa'* (فـ).

The Second Discussion: It might be asked: Death will meet them in any case, whether they flee or not, so what is the meaning of the condition and consequence?

It is said that this is a refutation of them, as they thought that fleeing would save them. This meaning has been clarified and made explicit through a true conditional statement in the saying:

And whoever fears the means of death, it will reach him, Even if he reached the means of the heavens with a ladder.

7 < {O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you, if you should know.}

{And when the prayer has been concluded, then spread throughout the land and seek [some] of the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may be successful.}
