And they called one another at morning,
Tafsir
Verse range: 68:21
**Muqatil said:** When they woke up, some of them said to others: **{Go early to your field}** (meaning the harvest, the crops, and the grapes). This is why He said, **"reaping"** (صَارِمِينَ), because they intended to cut the fruits from these trees.
If it is asked: Why did He not say, *“Go **to** your field”* (إلى حرثكم), and what is the meaning of **“upon”** (*‘alā* - على)?
We say: Since the early going to it was for the purpose of reaping and cutting it, it is described as going **upon** it, just as you say, "The enemy went **upon** them" (*ghadā ‘alayhim al-‘aduww*).
Alternatively, the verb *ghadā* (to go early) might imply the meaning of **approaching** or **turning towards**, as in the saying: "He comes to them in the morning with the tray (*al-jafnah*) and returns in the evening," meaning: **So approach your field early in the morning.**
