They whispered among themselves. *Khafiyya*, *khafata*, and *khafada* all carry the meaning of concealment. From this root is *al-khufdūd* (the bat).

Ibn Abbas said: They went to her, carrying a secret, with some of them conveying speech to others so that none of the poor and needy would know.

{That no poor person should enter upon you this Day.}
