Surah Al-Qalam (The Pen): Verse 24

(24) أن لا يدخلنها...

  • "أن" (an) here is explanatory (mufassirah).
  • Ibn Mas'ud recited it by omitting an, implying the verb "to say" (i.e., they whisper, saying, "He shall not enter it").
  • The prohibition directed at the poor man (from entering) is a prohibition for them (the owners of the garden) from allowing him entry. That is, "Do not enable him to enter."
  • "...حتى يدخل" (hatta yadkhula - until he enters): This is like saying, "I will not see you here" (meaning, do not let me see you here).

Then He said:

**{ وغدوا على حردٍ قادرين }** *And they proceeded with firm resolve, able [to do what they intended].*
