Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful.
Tafsir
Verse range: 68:41
There are two interpretations regarding the meaning of this verse:
The First Interpretation: Do they have entities that they believe are partners to God? They believe these partners will grant them the same reward and deliverance from punishment in the Hereafter as the believers receive. The partners are attributed to them because they made them partners to God. This is similar to His saying: {Is there any of your partners who does any of that?} (Ar-Rum: 40).
The Second Interpretation: Do they have people who share this doctrine with them—the doctrine of equating the righteous (Muslims) with the wicked (criminals)? If they are truthful in their claim, let them bring forth these supposed partners.
The purpose here is to clarify that just as they have no rational proof for establishing this doctrine, nor any transmitted proof (a scripture they study), they also have no wise people who agree with them on this assertion. This indicates that their claim is false from every perspective.
Know that after God, the Exalted, invalidated their statement and exposed their doctrine as corrupt, He then explained the greatness of the Day of Resurrection.
{The Day when the leg shall be uncovered, and they will be called to prostrate, but they will not be able to. Their eyes humbled, overwhelmed by humiliation. And they were called to prostrate while they were safe.}
