Al-Haqqah (The Inevitable Event): (21) So he will be in a pleasing life...
There are two sub-issues concerning this verse:
Issue 1: Describing the life as *rāḍiyah* (pleasing/satisfying).
There are two interpretations for this description:
- Attribution (Nisbah) via Suffix: The meaning is that the life is attributed to satisfaction (like dāriʿ [wearing armor] or nābil [wielding a spear]). This attribution can be established either through the grammatical form (the ṣīghah) or through the actual letters/root.
- Metaphorical Attribution: Satisfaction (al-Riḍā) is metaphorically attributed to the life itself, even though satisfaction truly belongs to the owner of the life.
Issue 2: Defining the nature of the reward.
The scholars mentioned that the reward (thawāb) must possess several essential qualities:
- It must be a benefit (manfaʿah).
- It must be pure (free from impurities or drawbacks).
- It must be eternal (permanent/everlasting).
- It must be accompanied by glorification/honor (taʿẓīm).
Therefore, the statement {a pleasing life} (ʿīshatan rāḍiyah) is a comprehensive term encompassing all these stipulated conditions we have mentioned.
