Verse Text (Implied context from surrounding verses):

... and there is none of you who can prevent [Us]...

Tafsir (Exegesis):

[Regarding the phrase "and there is none of you"]

  • Muqatil and Al-Kalbi said: This means, "There is no one among you who can stop Us from that action [i.e., sending down the revelation]."
  • Al-Farra' and Al-Zajjaj said: The word hājizīn (preventers/blockers) is used in the description of aḥad (one/anyone) because aḥad here is used in the sense of the plural. This is because aḥad is a noun used in a general negation, where it is equal for the singular, the plural, the masculine, and the feminine.
  • Examples of this usage include: * The Almighty's saying: {We make no distinction between any one of His messengers} (Al-Baqarah: 285). * And His saying: {you are not like any one of the women} (Al-Ahzab: 32).
  • Know that the address in the phrase {and there is none of you} is directed toward mankind in general.

Transition to the Next Verse:

After the Almighty established that the Qur'an is a true revelation from God, brought by Gabriel to Muhammad (whose description was that he was neither a poet nor a soothsayer), He then clarified what the Qur'an itself is. He said:

Verse 47:

**{And indeed, it is a reminder for the righteous (Al-Muttaqīn).}**
