Verse range: 69:49

Open in Qurani

Al-Haqqah (The Inevitable Event): (49) And indeed, We know that...

...[the person] is inclined due to the love of this world. It is as if the Almighty said: As for the one who guards against the love of the world, he will remember through this Qur'an and benefit from it. But as for the one who leans toward it, he will deny this Qur'an and will not approach it.

My Commentary:

The Mu'tazilah may use this verse as evidence that disbelief (Kufr) does not originate from God. This is because God described the Qur'an as a reminder (Tadhkirah) for the pious (Al-Muttaqin), and He did not say it was a misguidance (Iḍlāl) for the deniers. Rather, that misguidance is attributed to them, as He states: "And indeed, We know that among you are deniers." This is analogous to His saying in Surah An-Nahl: {And upon God is the exposition of the way, and among them are those who deviate} (An-Nahl: 9). Know that the response to this argument has already been presented previously.

Then the Almighty said:

**{And indeed, it will be a regret for the disbelievers.}** (69:50)
