Surah Al-A'raf 7:87

ﲧ ﲨ ﲩ ﲪ ﲫ ﲬ ﲭ ﲮ ﲯ ﲰ ﲱ ﲲ ﲳ ﲴ ﲵ ﲶ ﲷ ﲸ ﲹ ﲺ

And if there should be a group among you who has believed in that with which I have been sent and a group that has not believed, then be patient until Allah judges between us. And He is the best of judges."

Al-A'raf (The Heights): Verse 87

**{And if a party [among you] believes in that with which I have been sent, and another party does not believe, then be patient until Allah judges between us. And He is the best of judges.}**

The purpose of this verse is to console the hearts of the believers and to warn those who have not believed.

The command {So be patient} (فاصبروا) is a threat (to the disbelievers), just as the statement {until Allah judges between us} (حتى يحكم الله بيننا) is a threat.

This situation aims to elevate the ranks of the believers and reveal the contemptibility of the disbelievers. This outcome may manifest in this world; if it does not appear in this life, it must certainly appear in the Hereafter.


Then He said: {And He is the best of judges} (وهو خير الحاكمين). This means He is a Judge free from injustice, bias, and partiality. Therefore, He must necessarily grant the pious believer high ranks and subject the wretched disbeliever to various punishments.

A parallel to this is His saying: {Or shall We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like those who spread corruption in the land?} (Qur'an 38:28).


Verse 88

**{Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people, "O Shu'ayb, we will surely expel you and those who believed with you from our town, or else you must return to our religion." He said, "Even if we were averse [to it]? * We would have fabricated a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion after Allah has saved us from it. And it is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, wills. Our Lord encompasses all things in His knowledge. In Allah we have put our trust. Our Lord, decide between us and our people with truth, and You are the best of those who decide."}**

The arrogant leaders said: "O Shu'ayb, we will surely expel you and those who believed with you from our town, or else you must return to our religion."

He replied: {Even if we were averse [to it]?} (i.e., even if we hated it).

He continued: {We would have fabricated a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion after Allah has saved us from it.} This is because returning to their religion after being saved by Allah would imply that the religion they followed (Shu'ayb's monotheism) was false, which would be a lie against God.

{And it is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, wills.} This expresses complete submission to God's decree, acknowledging that nothing happens outside His will.

{Our Lord, our Lord encompasses all things in His knowledge.} This affirms the vastness of God's knowledge, which includes all possibilities and outcomes.

{In Allah we have put our trust.} This signifies reliance upon Him alone.

{Our Lord, decide between us and our people with truth, and You are the best of those who decide.} This is a supplication asking God to judge justly between them and their people, affirming that He is the ultimate and most perfect Judge.
