Tafsir of Al-Jinn 72:12

Surah Al-Jinn 72:12

ﲾ ﲿ ﳀ ﳁ ﳂ ﳃ ﳄ ﳅ ﳆ ﳇ ﳈ

And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

Surah Al-Jinn (The Jinn): (Verse 12)

**"And we thought that..."**

The word dhann (ظن) here carries the meaning of certainty (يقين).

**"...in the earth"** (في الأرض) and **"...fleeing"** (هربا)

There are two interpretations regarding these phrases:

  1. They are circumstantial clauses (حالان): Meaning, "We will not be able to frustrate Him whether we are situated in the earth wherever we may be, nor will we frustrate Him while fleeing from it toward the heavens."
  2. They relate to specific actions: Meaning, "We will not frustrate Him concerning what He intends for us on the earth, nor will we frustrate Him if we seek to flee from Him."

The Twelfth Type (of Proof/Statement):

**"And [we believed] that when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord, he will not fear deprivation (بخسا) nor oppression (رهقا)."** (72:12)
