Tafsir of Al-Muzzammil 73:11

Al-Muzzammil (73): Verse 11

وَذَرْنِي وَالْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِي...

Know that if a person is deeply concerned with an important matter, and someone else is fully capable of taking care of that matter perfectly and completely, he would say to that person: "Leave me and that matter," meaning, "There is no need for anything else now that I am concerned with it." This is like His saying: {So leave Me with those who deny} (Al-Qalam: 44).

أُولِي النَّعْمَةِ (Those of Ease/Luxury):

• With the fatḥa (a): It means luxury/enjoyment (al-tan'um).
• With the kasra (i): It means bestowing favor (al-in'ām).
• With the ḍamma (u): It means delight/joy (al-suroor). It is said: An'im bika and Na''imta 'aynan (May your eye be delighted).

They were the chieftains of Quraysh, who were people of luxury and comfort.

وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا (And leave them a little while):

There are two interpretations for "a little while":

1. What is meant by "a little" is the life of this world.
2. What is meant by "a little" is that short period remaining until the Day of Badr, for Allah destroyed them on that day.

Then He mentioned the manner of their punishment with Allah:

إِنَّ لَدَيْنَا أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا * وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

**Indeed, with Us are fetters and a Blaze, And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. **
