That is, I granted him extensive prestige and leadership among his people, thus completing My favor upon him with wealth and status. The combination of these two is considered perfection by the people of this world. For this reason, one is invoked by this concept, saying: "May God perpetuate your *tamhīd*" (your establishment/smooth path), meaning, may He expand your influence and your authority over affairs. Some commentators interpreted this *tamhīd* (preparation/smoothing) as ease in living and longevity. Al-Walid was one of the great leaders of Quraysh, which is why he was nicknamed *al-Waḥīd* (The Unique One) and the "Fragrant Basil of Quraysh."
