Al-Muddaththir (The Cloaked One): Verse 36
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ (A warning to humankind)
Translation & Exegesis Notes:
- نَذِيرًا (Nadhīran - A Warner):
- It is interpreted as a Tamyīz (specification/elucidation) related to the preceding statement (referring to the Quran or the Message), meaning it is one of the great calamities/warnings (idhdhihi al-dawāhī), similar to saying, "She is one of the women in chastity" (hiya iḥdā an-nisā’ ‘afāfan).
- Alternatively, it is considered a Ḥāl (a circumstantial accusative).
- In the recitation of Ubayy [ibn Ka'b], it is read as نَذِيرٌ (Nadhīrun) in the nominative case, serving as the Khabar (predicate) or by omitting the subject (Mubtada’).
