Tafsir of Al-Qiyamah 75:12

Surah Al-Qiyamah (The Resurrection): Verse 12

{إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ} (To your Lord, that Day, is the final destination.)

There are two interpretations regarding the meaning of الْمُسْتَقَرُّ (the destination/place of settling):

1. The meaning of 'Settling' (Istiqrār): It means that on that Day, they will not be able to settle or turn toward anyone other than Him. This is supported by similar verses:
   • "Indeed, to your Lord is the return." (Al-'Alaq: 8)
   • "And to Allah is the final return." (An-Nur: 42)
   • "Indeed, to Allah are all matters returned." (Ash-Shura: 53)
   • "And that to your Lord is the [final] limit." (An-Najm: 42)

2. The meaning of 'Place of Settling' (Mawḍi' Qarār): It means that their final resting place—whether Paradise or Fire—is entrusted to the will of their Lord. Whomever He wills, He admits to Paradise, and whomever He wills, He admits to the Fire.

{يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ} (That Day, man will be informed of what he put forth and what he held back.)
