Tafsir
Verse range: 75:18
There are two issues concerning this verse:
Issue 1: The verse attributes the recitation to Jibrīl (Gabriel), peace be upon him. This indicates the immense honor bestowed upon Jibrīl, similar to the status of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the verse: "Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah" (An-Nisā’: 80).
Issue 2: Ibn ‘Abbās said that the meaning is: "When Jibrīl recites it, then follow his recitation." There are two interpretations of this:
This second view is stronger because the Prophet (peace be upon him) was commanded to cease reciting and listen to Jibrīl until Jibrīl finished, after which he would recite it. This context is not the place for commanding adherence to its lawful and unlawful rulings.
Ibn ‘Abbās reported that after this verse was revealed, whenever Jibrīl descended to the Prophet (peace be upon him), the Prophet would incline his head and listen. When Jibrīl departed, he would recite it.
