Al-Layth said: *Naḍara* (radiance/freshness) applies to color, trees, and leaves when they are fresh (*naḍrah*). *An-Naḍrah* means blessing/grace. *An-Nāḍir* means soft/tender. *An-Naḍr* is the beautiful aspect of everything. Hence, when a color is bright, it is called *nāḍir*—like saying "a bright green" (*akhḍar nāḍir*), and this applies to all colors. It means having a sparkle or luster. Similarly, trees and meadows are described as *nāḍir* (lush/verdant). This is derived from the Prophet's saying (peace be upon him): "May Allah make the face of the servant fresh/radiant (*naḍḍara*) who hears my saying and comprehends it." Most narrators use the lightened form (with one *ḍād*), but 'Ikrimah narrated from Al-Aṣma'ī that it is transmitted with the intensified form (with two *ḍād*s). The expressions of the exegetes regarding the meaning of *an-Nāḍirah* differ, but their meaning is one: they said: **Joyful, tender/soft, luminous, brightened, radiant with delight.** Al-Zajjāj said: They are radiant because of the bliss of Paradise, just as He said: {You will recognize in their faces the radiance of bliss} (Al-Muṭaffifīn: 24).
