ﲵ ﲶ ﲷ
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
Tafsir
Verse range: 77:15
{وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ}
Woe on that Day to those who deny (the Truth)!
This refers to those who deny Monotheism (Tawhid), Prophethood (Nubuwwah), the Resurrection (Ma'ad), and everything reported by the Prophets, peace be upon them.
Two questions remain here:
Answer: Originally, Wail (Woe) is an accusative verbal noun (masdar mansub) standing in place of its verb. However, it has been shifted to the nominative case (raising/raf') to indicate the permanence and continuity of the doom upon the one being addressed. Similar examples include {سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ} (Peace be upon you). It is permissible for it to be read with the accusative (Waylan), but this reading is not attested.
Answer: This is addressed in two ways:
{أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الْأَوَّلِينَ * ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الْآخِرِينَ * كَذَلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ * وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ}
16. Have We not destroyed the former generations? 17. Then We cause the later ones to follow them. 18. Thus do We deal with the criminals. 19. Woe on that Day to those who deny (the Truth)!
