Tafsir
Verse range: 77:7
Translation:
Indeed, what you are promised is surely to occur.
Exegesis:
This is the answer to the oath (mentioned previously). The meaning is: That which you are promised—the coming of the Day of Resurrection—will certainly happen and come to pass.
Al-Kalbi said: The intended meaning is that everything you are promised, whether good or evil, will indeed occur.
Those who hold the first interpretation (that it refers specifically to the Resurrection) argue by citing that immediately following these verses, God mentions the signs of the Day of Resurrection. This indicates that the intended meaning of this verse is solely the Resurrection. Furthermore, He then mentions the signs of the occurrence of this Day.
The first of these signs is His saying:
