ﲑ ﲒ ﲓ
As provision for you and your grazing livestock.
Tafsir
Verse range: 79:32-33
And the mountains He firmly set (Arsāhā)
The third attribute is His saying, the Exalted: {And the mountains He firmly set}. The discussion regarding the benefits of the mountains has already preceded.
Then, after the Exalted One clarified the manner of the Earth's creation and the extent of its benefits, He said: {A provision for you and for your grazing livestock} (Mata'an lakum wa li-an'āmikum).
The meaning is: We only created these things as enjoyment and benefit for you and for your livestock.
This verse is used as evidence by those who argue that the actions and rulings of God, the Exalted, are motivated by purposes and benefits (goals and wisdom). The discussion concerning this point has already been covered multiple times.
Know that We have previously explained that the Exalted One mentioned the manner of the creation of the heaven and the earth only to use them as evidence for His ability to resurrect and bring about the final gathering (Hashr and Nashr). Once He established that, and clarified the possibility of resurrection intellectually, He then informed about its occurrence.
{Then when the Great Calamity comes} (Fa-idhā jā'at aṭ-Ṭāmmah al-Kubrā)
