So where are you going?
Tafsir
Verse range: 81:26
This is a reprimand for them. It is said to one who deviates from the clear path intentionally, "Where are you going?" Their state is likened to someone who abandons the truth and turns toward falsehood. The meaning is: What path are you taking that is clearer than this path which has been made plain to you? Al-Farrā’ said: The Arabs say *ilā ayna tadhhab* (To where are you going?) and *ayna tadhhab* (Where are you going?). He also said: *Dhahabati ash-Shām* (He went to the Levant) and *inṭalaqat as-sūq* (The market set off). The Mu'tazila used this verse as proof, and its meaning is apparent.
Then He clarified what the Qur'an is, saying: { It is but a reminder to the worlds. }
