Surah Al-Inshiqaq (The Sundering): (10) And as for him who is given...
Verse 10: {And as for him who is given his record behind his back}
Regarding His saying: {And as for him who is given his record behind his back}, the exegetes (Mufassirun) have several interpretations:
- Al-Kalbi said: This happens because his right hand will be shackled to his neck, and his left hand will be behind his back.
- Mujahid said: His left hand is pulled off and placed behind his back.
- A group said: His face will turn around to his nape, and he will read his record in that manner.
- Another view: He is given his record with his left hand from behind his back, because when he tries to take it with his right hand (like the believers), he is prevented from doing so, and thus he is given it behind his back with his left hand.
If one asks: Is this not contradictory to what is stated in Surah Al-Haqqah: {But as for him who is given his record in his left hand} (69:25), where the mention of "behind the back" is omitted?
- It is possible that he is given it with his left hand from behind his back, as we narrated from Al-Kalbi.
- It is possible that some individuals are given it with their left hand, while others are given it from behind their back.
Verse 11: {He will call out for perdition!}
{He will call out for perdition (Thabūr)}
