Tafsir
Verse range: 84:7
{فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ}
The meaning is: As for he who is given his record of deeds by his right hand, {فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا} (he will be reckoned with an easy reckoning).
The word سوف (will) from God implies certainty, similar to when someone says, "Follow me, and we will surely find good." It does not imply doubt but rather softens the speech.
The easy reckoning (الحساب اليسير) is that his deeds are presented to him, and he recognizes which is obedience and which is sin. Then, he is rewarded for the obedience, and the sin is overlooked. This is the easy reckoning because there is no severity or detailed questioning for its possessor. He will not be asked, "Why did you do this?" nor will he be required to provide an excuse or proof for it. If he were required to do so, he would find no excuse or proof and would thus be disgraced.
Furthermore, after this easy reckoning, he will return to his family rejoicing (مسرورا), having attained the reward and being safe from punishment. His "family" (أهله) refers to the Houris (virgins of Paradise) or his believing wives and offspring, if they were believers. This verse indicates that the Almighty has prepared for him and his family in Paradise what befits them of reward.
It is narrated from Aisha (may God be pleased with her) that she heard the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "O God, reckon me with an easy reckoning." She asked, "What is the easy reckoning?" He replied: "He looks at his book and overlooks his sins. As for the one who is subjected to detailed questioning in the reckoning, he is ruined."
Also from Aisha (may God be pleased with her): The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is subjected to detailed questioning in the reckoning is ruined." She asked, "O Messenger of God, God says: {فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ * فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا} (As for he who is given his record by his right hand, he will be reckoned with an easy reckoning)." He replied: "That is the presentation (عرض), but whoever is subjected to detailed questioning in the reckoning will be punished."
There is a point of ambiguity in the phrase يُحَاسَبُ (he will be reckoned with), as reckoning usually occurs between two parties, and on the Day of Resurrection, no one has a claim against their Lord to hold Him accountable.
The response is that the servant will say, "My Lord, I committed such-and-such sin." Thus, it is as if this exchange occurs between the Lord and the servant, constituting a reckoning. The evidence for this is that the Almighty specifically mentioned that He will not speak (لا يكلمهم) to the disbelievers, which implies that He will speak (يكلم المطيعين) to the obedient ones, and the servant speaking to Him constitutes that conversation/reckoning.
