ﱦ ﱧ ﱨ
And enter among My [righteous] servants
ﱦ ﱧ ﱨ
And enter among My [righteous] servants
Tafsir
Verse range: 89:29
فادخلي في عبادي (So enter among My Servants)
The First Issue:
It is narrated that this verse was revealed concerning Hamzah ibn Abd al-Muttalib.
Another narration states it was revealed concerning Khubayb ibn 'Uday, whom the people of Mecca crucified, positioning his face towards Mecca (away from Medina). He supplicated: "O Allah, if I have any good standing with You, then turn my face towards Your city [Medina]." So, Allah turned his face towards Medina, and no one was able to turn it back.
However, you know that the consideration is given to the generality of the wording, not the specificity of the occasion (i.e., the reason for revelation).
The Second Issue:
The statement {ادخلى فى عبادى} (Enter among My Servants) means: Join My near and intimate servants.
This is a noble station because noble, sacred spirits are like polished mirrors. When some of them join others, a state arises between them similar to the state achieved when polished mirrors face each other, causing the reflection of rays from one onto the others. Consequently, everything manifested in all of them appears in each individual one.
In summary, this joining becomes a means for the perfection of those felicities and the magnification of those spiritual ranks. This is what is intended by the Almighty's saying: {وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ * فَسَلَامٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ} (The Event: 90-91) [i.e., a spiritual felicity].
Then He said: {وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي} (And enter My Paradise). This points to the bodily felicity.
Since the spiritual Paradise is not separated from death for the blessed ones, it is fitting that He said: {فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي} (So enter among My Servants), using the particle Fa (فـ), indicating immediate sequence.
However, since the bodily Paradise is not attained except after the Great Resurrection, it is fitting that He said: {وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي} (And enter My Paradise), mentioning it with the conjunction Waw (و), not the Fa (فـ).
And Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, knows best. May peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
