ﱍ ﱎ ﱏ ﱐ ﱑ ﱒ ﱓ ﱔ ﱕ ﱖ ﱗ ﱘ ﱙ ﱚ ﱛ ﱜ
But the Messenger and those who believed with him fought with their wealth and their lives. Those will have [all that is] good, and it is those who are the successful.

Tafsir
Verse range: 9:88-89
When the Almighty described the state of the hypocrites in fleeing from Jihad, He then clarified the state of the Messenger and those who believed with him as the opposite thereof, as they expended wealth and life seeking God's pleasure and drawing near to Him.
The word {But} (لكن) carries a benefit: the implication is that if these hypocrites refrained from the expedition, then those better than them, purer in intention and belief, have proceeded, similar to His saying: {But if these disbelieve in it, then We have entrusted it to a people who are not disbelievers in it} (Al-An'am: 89), and {But if they are too proud, then those who are with your Lord} (Fussilat: 38).
After describing them as hastening to Jihad, He mentioned the benefits and advantages they attained, which are of several types:
