Translation of Mafatih al-Ghayb Excerpt

Verse Segment: (15) an orphan near of kin (يتيمًا ذا مقربة)

Al-Razi's Commentary (Drawing on others):

Al-Zajjaj said: *Dhu qarabah* (possessor of kinship) is used, just as one says, "Zayd is *dhu qarabati* (my kinsman) and *dhu maqrabati* (one near to me)."
[The phrase] *Zayd qarabati* (Zayd is my kinship) is awkward because *qarabah* is a verbal noun (masdar).
**Al-Muqatil said:** This means an orphan who has a kinship tie with him. Thus, two rights are combined in him: the right of being an orphan and the right of kinship. Therefore, feeding him is superior (in merit).
It is also said that closeness through neighborhood (*jiwar*) is included here, just as closeness through lineage (*nasab*) is included.

Regarding the following verse:

**Or a needy person covered in dust (أو مسكينا ذا متربة)**
