Surah Yunus: 109

{And be patient} regarding their invitation, the enduring of their harm, and their turning away, {until Allah judges} for you with victory over them and triumph.

It is narrated that when this verse was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gathered the Ansar and said: "You will surely encounter selfishness after me, so be patient until you meet me." He meant: "I have been commanded in this verse to be patient with what the disbelievers inflict upon me, and I have been patient; so you too be patient with what the oppressive rulers inflict upon you." Anas said: "So we did not remain patient."

It is narrated that Abu Qatadah refrained from meeting Mu'awiyah when he arrived in Medina, even though the Ansar had gone to meet him. Later, he entered upon him, and Mu'awiyah asked: "What kept you from meeting us?" He replied: "We had no mounts." Mu'awiyah asked: "Where are the camels used for irrigation?" He replied: "We slaughtered them in pursuit of you and your father on the day of Badr. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'O assembly of Ansar, you will encounter selfishness after me.' Mu'awiyah asked: 'And what did he say?' He replied: 'He said: Be patient until you meet me.' Mu'awiyah said: 'Then be patient.' He replied: 'We shall be patient.'"

Then Abd al-Rahman ibn Hassan said:

Would that the news reached Mu'awiyah ibn Harb, The commander of the oppressors, of my words. For we are patient, awaiting you, Until the Day of Mutual Loss and the Final Dispute.

From the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Whoever recites Surah Yunus will be given ten rewards for every person who believed in Yunus or disbelieved in him, and for every person who drowned with Pharaoh."
