Tafsir of Yunus 10:57

{There has come to you a sermon} Meaning: A Book has come to you that gathers these benefits, consisting of a sermon and an admonition regarding the Oneness of God (Tawhid).

{And it is a healing for what is in the breasts} Meaning: A medicine for what your breasts contain of corrupt beliefs, and a call to the Truth.

{And a mercy} For those among you who believe in it.

{Let them rejoice in it} The origin of the speech is: "In the bounty of God and His mercy, let them rejoice; so in that, let them rejoice." The repetition is for emphasis, confirmation, and to mandate that joy be reserved exclusively for His bounty and mercy, rather than the fleeting benefits of this world. One of the two verbs was omitted because the one mentioned indicates it. The fa (so) is included to imply a conditional meaning, as if it were said: "If they are to rejoice in anything, let them reserve their joy for these two, for there is nothing more worthy of joy than them."

It is also possible that the meaning is: "In the bounty of God and His mercy, let them take care; so in that, let them rejoice."

It is also possible that the meaning is: "A sermon has come to you by the bounty of God and His mercy; so in that—meaning in its arrival—let them rejoice."

Readings and Traditions:

• It is read as {Let you rejoice} (with the ta), which is the original form and the standard linguistic analogy; it is the reading of the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) as reported.
• From him (the Prophet) it is also reported: {Take your ranks} (as he said in some battles).
• In the reading of Ubayy: {So rejoice}.
• {It} refers to that (the bounty and mercy).
• It is read as {what you gather} (with both ya and ta).

From Ubayy ibn Ka'b: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) recited {Say: By the bounty of God and His mercy} and said: "By the Book of God and Islam."

It is said: {His bounty} is Islam, and {His mercy} is what He has promised therein.

{Say: Have you considered what God has sent down for you of provision, and you have made some of it lawful and some unlawful? Say: Has God permitted you, or do you invent lies against God? And what will be the conjecture of those who invent lies against God on the Day of Resurrection? Indeed, God is full of bounty to the people, but most of them do not give thanks.}
