Tafsir of Yunus 10:62-64

{أولياء الله}: Those who befriend Him through obedience, and whom He befriends with honor. This is explained in His saying: {Those who believed and were God-fearing}. Their befriending Him is their faith and piety; His befriending them is {for them are glad tidings in the worldly life and in the Hereafter}.

From Sa‘id ibn Jubayr: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked: "Who are the allies (awliya) of Allah?" He replied: "Those who, when seen, remind one of Allah," meaning by their demeanor and appearance.

From Ibn Abbas: They are those characterized by humility and tranquility. It is also said: They are those who love one another for the sake of Allah.

From Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: "Among the servants of Allah are those who are neither prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs will envy them on the Day of Resurrection for their station with Allah." They asked: "O Messenger of Allah, tell us who they are and what their deeds are, so that we may love them." He said: "They are a people who loved one another for the sake of Allah, without any kinship or wealth between them. By Allah, their faces are light, and they are upon pulpits of light. They do not fear when people fear, nor do they grieve when people grieve." Then he recited the verse.

{الذين كفروا}: This is in the accusative or nominative case, either as praise, a description of the allies, or as an independent sentence (mubtada') with the predicate being {for them are glad tidings}.

Glad tidings in this world: This refers to what Allah has promised the believing, God-fearing people in many places in His Book.

• From the Prophet (ﷺ): "It is the righteous dream that a Muslim sees or is seen for him."
• Also from him (ﷺ): "Prophethood has departed, and only the glad tidings remain."
• It is also said: It is the love people have for them and their good reputation.
• From Abu Dharr: I said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "A man does a deed for the sake of Allah, and people love him for it." He replied: "That is the immediate glad tidings for the believer."
• From ‘Ata’: They have glad tidings at the time of death; the angels come to them with mercy. Allah says: {The angels descend upon them: "Do not fear and do not grieve, but receive glad tidings of Paradise."}

Glad tidings in the Hereafter: This is the angels meeting them with greetings and news of success and honor, the whiteness of their faces, the receiving of their records in their right hands, what they read from them, and other such tidings.

{لا تبديل لكلمات الله}: There is no changing His words and no breaking of His promises, similar to His saying: {The word is not changed with Me} (Qaf: 29).

{ذالك}: This is a reference to their being given glad tidings in both abodes. Both sentences are parenthetical.
