Surah Yunus: 93
{A settled abode of truth}: A righteous, pleasing dwelling-place, which is Egypt and the Levant.
{Yet they did not differ} in their religion, nor did they branch out into sects, except after they had read the Torah, acquired knowledge of the true religion, and were obligated to remain steadfast upon it and maintain unity of word, knowing that differing in it meant departing from it.
It is also said: It refers to the knowledge concerning Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). The disagreement of the Children of Israel—who are the People of the Book—was regarding his description and attributes: whether he is the one [prophesied] or not. After the knowledge and clear evidence came to them that it was indeed him, they did not doubt it, as Allah the Exalted said: {Those to whom We have given the Book recognize him as they recognize their own sons}.
Surah Yunus: 94–95
{So if you are in doubt, [O Muhammad], about that which We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you. The truth has certainly come to you from your Lord, so never be among the doubters. And never be of those who deny the signs of Allah and [thus] be among the losers.}
