Tafsir of Hud 11:100-101

Surah Hud 11:101

ﱢ ﱣ ﱤ ﱥ ﱦ ﱧ ﱨ ﱩ ﱪ ﱫ ﱬ ﱭ ﱮ ﱯ ﱰ ﱱ ﱲ ﱳ ﱴ ﱵ ﱶ ﱷ ﱸ ﱹ ﱺ ﱻ

And We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. And they were not availed at all by their gods which they invoked other than Allah when there came the command of your Lord. And they did not increase them in other than ruin.

Hud: 100–101

{ذالك} is the subject. {من أنباء القرى نقصه عليك} is the predicate, followed by another predicate. That is to say: This news is a portion of the accounts of the destroyed towns, related to you.

{منها}: The pronoun refers to the towns. It means: some of them remain, while others have had their traces erased, like crops standing on their stalks versus those that have been harvested.

If you ask: What is the grammatical status of this sentence? I say: It is an independent (incipit) sentence with no grammatical position.

{وما ظلمناهم}: By destroying them. {ولكن ظلموا أنفسهم}: By committing that which caused their destruction. {فما أغنت عنهم آلهتهم}: They were unable to avert the punishment of Allah from them. {يدعون}: They worship; it is a narrative of a past state. {لما}: It is governed by the verb aghnat (availed). {أمر ربك}: His punishment and vengeance. {تتبيب}: Causing loss. It is said: taba (he lost) if he suffered a loss, and tabbabahu (someone else caused him to lose) if he cast him into loss.

{وكذالك أخذ ربك إذا أخذ القرى وهي ظالمة إن أخذه أليم شديد}
