Hud: (6) And there is no moving creature...

If you ask: How can He say, "Upon Allah is its provision," using the language of obligation, when it is merely an act of grace (favor)?

I say: It is an act of grace. However, because He has guaranteed to bestow it upon them, this grace has become binding, similar to the vows made by servants.

  • "Its dwelling place" (mustaqarruha): Its place on earth and its residence.
  • "Its repository" (mustawda‘uha): Where it is deposited before settling, whether in the loins, the womb, or an egg.

"And its repository" refers to every one of the living creatures. Their provision, their dwelling place, and their repository are all in the Preserved Tablet (al-Lawh); meaning, their mention is written therein, clearly.

(7) And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days—and His Throne had been upon water—that He might test you as to which of you is best in deed. But if you say, "Indeed, you will be resurrected after death," those who disbelieve will surely say, "This is not but obvious magic."
