Surah Yusuf 12:103



ﳖ ﳗ ﳘ ﳙ ﳚ ﳛ

And most of the people, although you strive [for it], are not believers.

{And most of the people} He intends the general sense, as in His saying: {But most of the people do not believe} (Hud: 17).

According to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he intended the people of Mecca; meaning: they will not believe {even if you were to strive} and exhaust yourself for their faith, due to their resolve in disbelief and their obstinacy.

{And you do not ask them} for what you relate to them and remind them of, that they might grant you any benefit or gain, as is given to those who carry reports and news.

{It is nothing but a reminder}—an exhortation from Allah—{to the worlds} in general, and an incitement to seek salvation, delivered upon the tongue of one of His messengers.
