Tafsir of Yusuf 12:106

{And most of them believe not in Allah except while they associate others with Him.}

In their acknowledgment of Allah—and that He created them and created the heavens and the earth—they do not do so except while they are polytheists, by worshipping idols.

• Al-Hasan said: They are the People of the Scripture; they possess both polytheism and faith.
• Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: They are those who liken Allah to His creation.

{Then do they feel secure that there will not come to them an overwhelming affliction from the punishment of Allah, or that the Hour will not come upon them suddenly while they do not perceive?}
