And when Joseph reached maturity, We gave him judgment and knowledge. And thus We reward the doers of good.

Tafsir
Verse range: 12:22
"And when he reached his maturity..."
Regarding the "maturity" (ashudd), it has been said: eighteen, twenty, thirty-three, or forty years. It is also said: its maximum is sixty-two.
"...[We gave him] judgment (hukm)..." Meaning wisdom, which is knowledge combined with action and the avoidance of ignorance. It is also said: the ability to judge between people and jurisprudence (fiqh).
"...And thus do We reward the doers of good." An alert that he was a doer of good in his deeds and God-fearing in the prime of his life, and that God gave him judgment and knowledge as a reward for his excellence (ihsan).
Al-Hasan said: "Whoever excels in the worship of his Lord in his youth, God grants him wisdom in his maturity."
"And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him. She closed the doors and said, 'Come here.' He said, 'I seek refuge in Allah! Indeed, he is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed.'"
