Surah Yusuf: 45

"And the one who was saved said..."

It is recited: (wa-ddakara) with the dāl, which is the eloquent form. From al-Hasan: (wa-dhakara) with the dotted dhāl. The root is tadhakkara (he remembered). That is: the one who was saved from the two youths from being killed remembered Yusuf and what he had witnessed of him.

{...after a period of time} Meaning: after a long duration. This is because when the King sought a fatwa regarding his dream, and its interpretation became difficult for the assembly, the survivor remembered Yusuf, his interpretation of his dream and his companion's dream, and his request that he mention him to the King.

Al-Ashhab al-‘Uqayli recited: (ba‘da immah) with a kasrah on the hamzah. Al-immah means "blessing." ‘Adi said: Then after success, kingship, and blessing, The graves concealed them there. Meaning: after he was blessed with salvation.

It is also recited: (ba‘da umhih) meaning "after forgetting." It is said: amaha ya’muhu amhan when one forgets. Whoever recites it with a sukun on the mim has erred.

{I will inform you of its interpretation} I will tell you about it from the one who possesses its knowledge. In the recitation of al-Hasan: (ana ātīkum bi-ta’wīlihi) (I will bring you its interpretation).

{So send me} Send me to him so I may ask him, and command me to seek its interpretation. From Ibn ‘Abbas: The prison was not in the city.

{Yusuf, O truthful one, explain to us about seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean ones, and seven green spikes and others dry, that I may return to the people so that they may know.}
