Yusuf: 62

{لفتيانه} It is also read as fityānihi. Both are plurals of fatā (youth/servant), similar to ikhwah and ikhwān for akh (brother). Fi‘lah is for a small number, and fi‘lān is for a large number. It means: to his servants who were measuring the grain.

{لعلهم يعرفونها} Perhaps they will recognize it—meaning, recognize the right of returning it and the right of generosity in having been given the goods in exchange.

{إذا انقلبوا إلى أهلهم} When they return to their families and empty their sacks.

{لعلهم يرجعون} Perhaps they will return. It is said that their goods were sandals and leather.

It is also said: He feared that his father might not have enough provisions for them to return.

It is also said: He did not consider it generous to take payment from his father and brothers.

It is also said: He knew their piety would compel them to return the goods, as they would not deem it lawful to keep them, and thus they would return for that reason.

It is also said: The meaning of {لعلهم يرجعون} is "perhaps they will return it."

Yusuf: 63

{فلما رجعوا إلى أبيهم قالوا ياأبانا منع منا الكيل فأرسل معنآ أخانا نكتل وإنا له لحافظون}
