Surah Yusuf: 64

{هل آمنكم عليه} He means: You previously said regarding Yusuf, "And indeed, we will be his guardians" (Yusuf: 12), just as you are saying now regarding his brother. Then you betrayed your guarantee. So, what would make me trust you with the same thing again?

{فالله خير حافظا} He placed his trust in Allah regarding him and entrusted him to them.

  • {حافظا} is a tamyiz (specifier), similar to saying: "He is the best of them as a man" (rajulan), or "How excellent he is as a horseman" (farisan).
  • It is also permissible for it to be a hal (state/adverbial accusative).
  • It has been recited as: hifzan.
  • Al-A‘mash recited: fa-Allahu khayru hafizin.
  • Abu Hurayrah recited: khayru al-hafizin.

{وهو أرحم الراحمين} I hope that He will favor me by protecting him and not combine two calamities upon me.

Surah Yusuf: 65

{ولما فتحوا متاعهم وجدوا بضاعتهم ردت إليهم قالوا ياأبانا ما نبغي هذه بضاعتنا ردت إلينا ونمير أهلنا ونحفظ أخانا ونزداد كيل بعير ذلك كيل يسير}
