For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.
Tafsir

{For those who have responded to their Lord...}
The lam (preposition) is connected to [the verb] yaḍribu (He sets forth). That is: "Likewise, Allah sets forth the parables for the believers who have responded, and for the disbelievers who have not responded." In other words, these are the parables of the two groups.
Al-ḥusnā (the best/most beautiful) is an adjective describing the verbal noun of istajābū (they responded). That is: "They responded with the best response."
His saying, {If they had all that is on earth...}, is a new sentence initiating the mention of what has been prepared for those who did not respond.
It has been said: The speech is complete at His saying, {Likewise, Allah sets forth the parables} (Ar-Raʿd: 17), and what follows is a new, independent statement. In this view, al-ḥusnā is the subject (mubtadaʾ), and its predicate (khabar) is {for those who have responded}. The meaning is: "For them is the best reward, which is Paradise."
{And those who did not respond} is a subject whose predicate is the law (if) clause and its contents, and {the evil of the reckoning} refers to being strictly scrutinized. Regarding this, al-Nakhaʿī said: "It is that a man is held to account for every one of his sins, and nothing of it is forgiven."
{Is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like him who is blind? Only those of understanding will take heed.}
