Surah Ibraheem 14:23

ﲭ ﲮ ﲯ ﲰ ﲱ ﲲ ﲳ ﲴ ﲵ ﲶ ﲷ ﲸ ﲹ ﲺ ﲻ ﲼ ﲽ ﲾ

And those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein by permission of their Lord; and their greeting therein will be, "Peace!"

"And those who believed were admitted..."

Al-Hasan and ‘Amr ibn ‘Ubayd recited: wa-udkhilu (And I admitted those who believed), in the first-person active voice. This signifies: "I admitted them," and it is evidence that these are the words of Allah, not the words of Iblis.

  • "By the permission of their Lord": This relates to udkhilu (were admitted/I admitted). It means: The angels admitted them into Paradise by the permission and command of Allah.
  • If you ask: "To what does it relate in the other recitation (the passive voice), and how can your statement 'I admitted them by the permission of their Lord' be coherent?"
  • I reply: The interpretation for this recitation is that the phrase "by the permission of their Lord" relates to what follows it. That is: "Their greeting therein is 'Peace'" by the permission of their Lord. This means the angels greet them by the permission of their Lord.

"Have you not considered how Allah presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky? It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allah presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded."
