Tafsir of Al-Hijr 15:49

[49] When He completed the mention of the promise and the threat, He followed it with "Inform My servants," to confirm what was mentioned and to establish it firmly in the souls.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "He is Forgiving to those who repent, and His punishment is for those who do not repent."

He linked "And inform them" to "Inform My servants," so that they may take what was permitted of the punishment on the day of Lot as a lesson, through which they may consider the wrath of Allah and His vengeance upon the criminals, and realize with certainty that His punishment is the painful punishment.

[51] And inform them about the guests of Abraham.

[52] When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." He said, "Indeed, we are fearful of you."

[53] They said, "Do not fear. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."

[54] He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has reached me? So upon what do you base your good tidings?"

[55] They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

[56] He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except those astray?"
