Al-Hijr: (6) "And they said, 'O you upon whom the Reminder has been sent down...'"

Al-A‘mash recited: "O you upon whom the Reminder has been sent down."

It is as if this address from them was by way of mockery, just as Pharaoh said: "Indeed, your messenger who has been sent to you is mad" (Ash-Shu‘ara: 27).

How could they acknowledge the descent of the Reminder upon him while simultaneously attributing madness to him?

Reversal (irony) in their speech for the sake of mockery and sarcasm is a widespread practice. It has appeared in the Book of Allah in several places, such as: "So give them tidings of a painful punishment" (Al ‘Imran: 21), and "Indeed, you are the forbearing, the wise" (Hud: 87). It is also found frequently in the speech of non-Arabs.

The meaning: You are speaking the words of the insane when you claim that Allah has sent down the Reminder upon you.

(7) "Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"
