Al-Hijr: (7) *Law ma ta’tina...*

{Law ma} is compounded with la and la for two meanings: the meaning of the impossibility of a thing due to the existence of another, and the meaning of incitement (tahdid). As for {hal}, it is only compounded with la alone for incitement. Ibn Muqbil said:

*Were it not for modesty, and were it not for religion, I would have reproached you both* *For some of what is in you, since you reproached my faults.*

The meaning is: "Why do you not bring the angels to us to testify to your truthfulness and support you in your warning?" This is like His saying, the Exalted: “Why has an angel not been sent down to him, so that he might be a warner with him?” (Al-Furqan: 7).

Or it means: "Why do you not bring the angels to us for punishment for our denying you, if you are truthful, just as they used to come to the nations that denied their messengers?"

{We do not send down the angels except with the truth, and they would not then be reprieved.}
