Tafsir
Verse range: 15:80-84
{The companions of al-Hijr} They are Thamud, and al-Hijr is their valley, located between Medina and al-Sham.
{The messengers} He means by their denial of Salih, for whoever denies one of them is as if he has denied them all. Or, he intended Salih and those who were with him among the believers, as it is said: "The Khubaybites" regarding Ibn al-Zubayr and his companions.
Jabir narrated: "We passed by al-Hijr with the Prophet (ﷺ), and he said to us: 'Do not enter the dwellings of those who wronged themselves unless you are weeping, for fear that what befell them might befall you.' Then the Prophet (ﷺ) urged his mount and hastened until he passed beyond it."
{Secure} Due to the sturdiness and solidity of their houses, protecting them from collapsing or their structures falling, and from the tunneling of thieves, enemies, and the calamities of time. Or, they were secure from the punishment of God, thinking the mountains would protect them from it.
{What they used to earn} From the construction of sturdy houses, wealth, and equipment.
{We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming, so forgive with gracious forgiveness.}
