Tafsir
Verse range: 16:114
[Exegesis] When He admonished them with what was mentioned regarding the state of the town and the disbelief and evil deeds it committed, He connected to that—using the fa (so) in His saying: "So eat"—a turning away from the practices of the Jahiliyyah and their corrupt ways which they were upon.
He did this by commanding them to eat what Allah has provided for them of the lawful and the good, and to be grateful for His blessings in that. He said: "If it is Him that you worship," meaning: if you obey Him. Or, if your claim is true that you worship Allah by worshipping [other] deities—on the basis that they are your intercessors before Him.
Then, He enumerated for them the things Allah has made unlawful, and forbade them from declaring things lawful or unlawful based on their own whims and ignorance, rather than following what Allah has legislated upon the tongues of His prophets.
