An-Naḥl: 52

{وَلَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالدِّينُ وَاصِبًا}

{الدِّينُ}: Obedience.

{وَاصِبًا}: A circumstantial qualifier (ḥāl) governed by the prepositional phrase (al-ẓarf).

  • Al-Wāṣib means: The obligatory, the established. This is because every blessing is from Him, so obedience is obligatory upon everyone who has been blessed.
  • It is also possible that it is derived from al-waṣab (pain/fatigue), meaning: To Him belongs the religion, which entails burden and hardship—and that is why it is called taklīf (imposition/obligation).
  • Or: To Him belongs the recompense, established, eternal, and everlasting, which does not cease—meaning reward and punishment.

An-Naḥl: 53–55

{وَمَا بِكُم مِّن نِّعْمَةٍ فَمِنَ اللَّهِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ الضُّرُّ فَإِلَيْهِ تَجْأَرُونَ * ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ الضُّرَّ عَنكُمْ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنكُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُونَ * لِيَكْفُرُوا بِمَا آتَيْنَاهُمْ ۚ فَتَمَتَّعُوا ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ}
