An-Naḥl: 79

"Have they not seen..."

It is read as a-lam taraw (Have you [plural] not seen) with a tā’, and a-lam yaraw (Have they not seen) with a yā’.

"{...held in subjection [musakhkharāt]...}" Meaning: Made subservient for flight by means of the wings and the favorable conditions created for them.

"The atmosphere [al-jaww]" The air that is distant from the earth in the direction of the heights. The sakāk is further than that, and the lawḥ is similar to it.

"{...none holds them [in the air] except Allah...}" By His power, [He holds them] in their contraction, extension, and hovering.

"{And Allah has made for you in your homes a place of rest, and made for you, out of the hides of cattle, homes which you find light [to carry] on the day of your travel and on the day of your encampment; and out of their wool, and their fur, and their hair, [He has made for you] furnishings and articles of convenience for a time.}"
